1. In paragraph 3(d) of my telegram under
reference it was stated that the precise
use to which H.M.G.'s free grant of £250,000
for the University is to be applied would be
the subject of further discussion between
the two Governments.
2. You should know that the Chancellor
of the Exchequer, while not seeking unduly
to dictate or limit the exact use to which
the money would be put, has expressed the
wish that this grant of £250,000 should be
used for the rehabilitation and development
of the University in addition to and not
